Our First Real Christmas Tree

Having kids means I get to recreate my beloved childhood holiday memories for my own kids.  Having a real Christmas tree in our home is definitely one of them!  I just remember the sweet smell of the fresh tree, how it stood so proudly in the middle of our living room with all the presents tucked underneath.  Brings back the warm and fuzzies just thinking about it.

When I got my own little town house, I opted for a little 5 foot artificial tree.  It was fine for the time being, but it didn’t feel like Christmas.  Plus, the tree made anyone who stood next to it uncharacteristically tall:

Christmas 2009

We got our tree at Home Depot for $36, which was a total bargain compared to the tree dealers on the corner who were trying to sell us trees for like $175.  We went for the Fraser Fir because the needles were softer, branches were more sturdy for ornaments, and it had less of a chance to die before Christmas.  We picked this winner:

Then the fun began and we got to decorate it (all decorations from the Sample Store – ornaments at 50% off, and a FREE tree stand).

I went with classic red and green with gold accents and lots of glitter and sparkles:

The babies weren’t really into the tree or the decorating process.  Arielle was frustrated because she couldn’t ge the little ornament hooks to work and Zavier just wanted to knock down all the ones that were hung.  I’m sure they’ll appreciate it when they are older.  So all we need are presents to put under the tree.  Which reminds me, I’m so very behind on Christmas shopping!  I haven’t even started and there’s less than 22 days left.  YIKES!

The 2 of you did a great job and i’m so happy you did it. The presents, thats easy, the picking of the tree itself is the hardest, then the decorating and evertyhing you did is A ok. Keep up the good work, Regards and TAKE CARE!
