Earlier this month:
Me: What do you want to be for Halloween?
Arielle: A Bucket!
Me: Huh?
Arielle: Piglet! I’m. Going. To. Be. PIGLET!
So along with her Piglet costume, I went all out and got a Winnie the Pooh costume for Zavier, an Eeyore stuffed animal, and matching goodie bags. One week before Halloween, she saw a bunch of princess costumes and were this {—} close to having a total meltdown:
Arielle: I don’t HAVE to be Piglet…
Me, in my head: Oh crap, oh crap! She’s only 3 and she’s already changing her mind about what to wear…I know wardrobe indecisiveness was built into the DNA of all women, but it starts this young?!
Me, to Arielle: Well, of course you do! Zavier is going to be Winnie the Pooh and Piglet is his best friend. So you should stick with Piglet.
Arielle: OK.
Me, in my head: Phewf! That was close!
It was super fun this year now that Arielle understands the concept of trick-or-treating. We went this past Sunday with all her cousins. She was the perfect trick-or-treater because she would say, “Trick-or-treat!” and hold out her candy bag. Then she would follow it up with, “Thank you! Happy Halloween!” After one house, she admitted, “Oops! I forgot to say ‘Happy Halloween!'” She really took her job as a trick-or-treater very seriously.
Zavier, on the other hand, had no idea what was going on. He just wanted to chill in his wagon and eat candy. Maybe next year, buddy.
