We Slayed the First Day of School

Here we go again! The first day of school, and this time Arielle is in 3rd grade and Zavier is in 1st grade.

We woke up early, had breakfast, and even had time to spare to take “first day of school” pictures. The kids were in good spirits and ready to take on the new school year.

A&Z had no jitters whatsoever.  We had the teacher meet and greet a few days before, which gave us the opportunity to find their classrooms and drop off their school supplies.  I dropped them off that morning to their respective classrooms and there were no tears or emotional moments, just very matter-of-fact – this is what we do and we are ready for this.

We freakin’ killed it.

I don’t know what’s different about this year versus the previous years.  Perhaps the kids always felt confident about the first day of school, and I was the emotional, overwhelmed wreck.  But it felt good.  Maybe I just need to shed the narrative in my head about always being overwhelmed and exhausted.  I got this.  I’ve always had it.  It was all in my head.
