Making Faces! Book Review and Giveaway

My kiddos have been super spoiled since we moved here with all the beaches and outdoor activities. Florida is like a giant playground for kids! But sometimes we stay home because I get lazy or it rains. And when it rains, I get lazy. I’m always looking for indoor activities that allow the kids to get creative without me having to buy a ton of supplies and then ending up with a big mess. I’m talking about no fuss and…did I mention I get lazy?

I was super happy when my friends over at Thames and Hudson sent us a copy of MAKING FACES! by Jacky Bahbout & Momoko Kudo. It’s a wonderfully silly, creative drawing pad that lets the kids star in their own works of art. And hey, you can enter for a chance to win a book for your kiddos! (Scroll down to enter in the giveaway.)

The concept is a simple art pad with a hole in the middle, with just enough graphics to spark the imaginations. First, pick a scene or character from the book. There are so many to choose from! You can be a lion, king, pumpkin, snowman, astronaut, dancer, singer, clown, or a caterpillar…

Next color, doodle, and draw around the headwear and surroundings. You can go crazy with glitter and other textures or you can just go with the good ol’ box of crayons to complete the art.

Once the drawing is finished, you stick your face through the strategically-placed hole to become the character. It’s like an easy photo booth prop and totally Instagram-worthy!

Making Faces

This was such a nice break from the iPad and Netflix that my kids are so addicted to. My favorite part was that Arielle and Zavier were able to get creative and use their imaginations, and it was totally appropriate for my first grader and preschooler. It’s a perfect kids activity for a rainy day, a lazy day, or any kind of awesome day!
