I’ve had this post brewing in my mind for a few months now. If you see me, I’m wearing it. If you converse with me, I’m talking about it. It’s the first thing I do when I get home from work and what I look forward to the most on weekends. A hobby, you might say. An obsession is more like it! It’s such a huge part of my bond with Alyssa and an entirely different and wonderful emotional journey as a mother – that is babywearing.
At first, it started out as a magical convenience. Look at all the things I can do while holding my newborn baby in this stretchy wrap!
I felt like super mom because I was able to take care of my two older kids, while still being loving and attentive to my new baby.
I figured out how to discreetly nurse with her in the carrier, so no matter where we were – shopping at Target, adventuring through caves, traveling through airports – I could go about my business and feed my baby without fear of public boob-ery. Is that a word?
It’s also nice to break free from the stroller, which we barely even use anymore. It’s so much easier to carry her at the beach.
But babywearing is a lot more than convenience and multi-tasking. It’s about holding her close, or as they say in the babywearing community, “Close enough to kiss.”
After a long day at work, I look forward to changing out of my office attire and putting on a wrap to soak in all the snuggles. I feel present when she is literally attached to me. There’s so much joy in these moments.
She’s completely content with me, too, as you can see.
OK, so I’m a little bit obsessed. And I take too many babywearing selfies. Guilty as charged! I just don’t want to forget this special bond I have with her.
Because she’s only going to be this little for a short amount of time. I’m reminded of this everyday when I see my big girl Arielle and big boy Zavier, and I so wish that I could have carried them this way.
Because there’s no such thing as too much snuggles with a little baby.
Sweet Alyssa, I hope you remember how much I love to carry you close. All the snuggles. All the kisses.
Boob-ery is my new favorite word.
Also I remember you talking about having not really discovered babywearing until Alyssa. Is that right? I did the Ergo with Des but I never did all the lovely wraps or the newborn wearing. I want that. Maybe if a third baby comes!

That’s right! I had no idea about it when I had Arielle and Zavier. You totally should have a 3rd baby just for the sake of babywearing. LOL actually, there’s a strong BW community in New England. I almost want to go to Boston for a specific store opening next week!
Yup,getting a baby carrier when I have another kiddo again-I can’t believe I didn’t get one for my daughter and didn’t put it on the baby register-what was I thinking! Enjoy your time with her!! They grow so fast :-/
I love the feeling or idea of staying close to your baby! And I think that baby wearing is such a great skill to learn. Plus the cute designs! 😉

It really is a skill! Seriously, by the time I’m done wrapping – especially with the back carries – I’m sweating!
