We’ve been in Florida for almost a month now and folks back home were asking me how life in Florida is so far. I started my new job and they certainly did not hold back from putting me to work. It’s more projects and longer hours than my old job. (It’s not a bad thing, though. I really enjoy the work and the people are really nice!) So I’m back on a Monday to Friday work week, in a 6×6 ft cubicle, gettin’ my hustle on.
The thing is, it doesn’t quite feel like the grind. Florida was definitely a change in lifestyle and I keep having to ask myself:
Seriously, the background on that photo was taken in a Wal-Mart parking lot. That can’t be real life. LOL
Having my parents around to help with the babies makes things a whole lot easier. They help take care of the kids when I’m at work, or even sometimes after work so can check out the nightlife at Ybor City:
I can’t remember the last time I was at a bar. On a Thursday night. (Taking shots!)
When I think of vacation, I think of beautiful beaches on remote islands. Here, those white sandy beaches are just an hour away and unpretentious. All you need is some sun block and a bathing suit:
…or in Alyssa’s case, a birthday suit will do just fine:
It always feels like vacay when my sis is around, too:
The fun thing about being on a vacation is discovering new foods, like Cuban sandwiches at local food shacks:
…and exploring the local attractions (other than Disney World):
We can go to the tourist attractions if we so please. Not to be tourists, though – just to be part of the action, like watching Minions at Universal Studios:
Even during the weekdays we can go on mini adventures along the fitness trails:
…and take walks around the neighborhood, hand-in-hand with my little buddy:
So I guess this is real life. I do have to work for a living, yes. But I’m doing it in a place that makes life feel like a permanent vacation. Turns out, it’s not so hard to get used to and life in Florida is good so far!
I used to live in San Francisco, as you know, and I had tourists literally in my front yard. (I lived in the pandhandle of Golden Gate Park) It was pretty cool seeing people from all over the world want to be in my home. Where we live now has that a bit, but to a smaller degree. It’s just gorgeous New England college town life.

I was in such a bubble living in the suburbs in the midwest. There’s so much diversity here, not just from the tourists, but locals as well! Florida is one huge melting pot of people from all over…it’s pretty rare when I meet an actual “local”.
Enjoy it girl! 🙂 Looks it Florida is agreeing with you!
I love it! There’s so much to explore…it’s like a giant playground for young families.
That sounds amazing! A permanent vacation sounds so dreamy in my side of the world. LOL. Being closer to the beach is awesome too! And that sandwich is sooo yummy! So shall we say that Florida has a more laid-back lifestyle?

Isn’t the Philippines like a permanent vacation? That’s how my parents describe it! That sandwich was so good. Aww, man…now I’m hungry!
Aw hahaha! I guess since I’ve lived here my entire life, I don’t have the idea of “permanent vacation”. LOL. I live in Cebu now and probably when I go back to my hometown, I can finally say it’s a permanent vacation. Hehehe

I love being a tourist in my own hometown!
That is kind of how it feels to actually live in Chicago-minus the weather of course, with it being only a couple months of summer :/ Glad you are adjusting to your new life there. Having help from the parents definitely makes it easier!

Yes, there is so much to do in the city! And you have access to beaches 🙂 If I recall correctly, there are actual palm trees at Oak Street Beach!
Yup, there is! And in my case I am only two blocks from the beach, but the downside of it all is you can only use it for a few months compare to year round in Florida. lol. My husband’s cousin and their two little kids moved to Key Biscayne Florida from New Jersey and they have invited us to stop by anytime, yay for having family now in Florida! Going to totally take that offer up!
