Celebrating together: Happy Birthday, A&Z!

HappybdayAZ

Happy birthday to my sweet babies!  Zavier turns 3 today and Arielle turns 5 tomorrow.  We were soooo close to having a two-year age gap, but I guess having them born 1 year and 364 days apart is close enough.  A&Z might not appreciate it so much because that means that they’ll probably have to celebrate their birthdays together.

This year, we decided not to throw them a big birthday party because we spent all last week celebrating in Florida (more on that to come!). When we got back, Zavier and I popped into Arielle’s preschool on Friday to help her celebrate with her classmates.  There’s just so much celebrating to do that I got overwhelmed and flustered in terms of what to do on their actual birthdays.

I didn’t even order a proper birthday cake for either of them this year.  It’s totally opposite from what we did on their first birthday when we went a little overboard on the cakes and parties:

Sorry kiddos, no fancy cake.  Not this year at least.

In other news, my iMac died on Friday and the nice people at Apple were able to install a new iOS.  Good thing I backed-up and didn’t lose all our precious photos.  (P.S. If you haven’t backed up recently, do it.  NOW.  You’ll thank me later.)  As soon as my iPhoto was restored, I went through all the pictures that would have been lost and started gathering baby pics for A&Z’s birthday posts.

As I was pulling solo picture-perfect portraits of them through their baby/toddler years, I came across a lot of random pictures of the two of them. Pictures that weren’t frame-worthy where I was probably annoyed because they weren’t looking at the camera, but didn’t bother to delete.

Upon taking a closer look, I could see why they would ignore their silly mommy-razzi yelling, “Look at Mommy!  Smile!  One, two – HEY! Look here at Mommy!” …it was because they were just focused on each other or the activity they were doing together.

Sister and brother.  Growing up together, having a good time.

Then I realized how special that must be:  to celebrate together as they grow together.  I hope they appreciate how wonderful it is to be siblings.  When they look back at all their childhood memories, the other one will be right there beside them.  Especially on their birthdays since they will be celebrating together.  If all else fails, at least they will get a week off from school for their birthday when spring break comes around!  I’m sure they’ll appreciate that.

Happy birthday, my sweet Arielle and Zavier!  With that, I leave you with some of the pictures of Arielle and Zavier together over the last 3 years that were almost lost but thankfully recovered.

I’ll try to post more birthday stuff throughout the week, but I’m not making any promises.  I’m returning to work this week after a long vacation.  *sigh*  In the meantime, here’s more A&Z birthday stuff you might enjoy:

  1. ha! Is she sucking his foot while he sucks his hand! Hilarious! Scarlet and Des are “almost” twins. His due date was exactly two weeks before her birthday, but he came a bit early. So they’re more like three weeks apart. It’s so close, though! I still throw their parties together, while he’s young enough not to resent that! He’s having a Frozen-themed party this year!! haha..little does he know..

    • I almost had a Frozen-themed join birthday party for A&Z but we ended up having just a small get together with my husbands sisters and their grandparents. We’re big Frozen fans over here!

  2. Happy Birthday, Arielle & Zavier. Having a March birthday myself, and two daughters with March birthdays, I think it’s a pretty cool month for a birthday 🙂 How do you back up your photos? I have all mine “backed up” in Flickr, but it would be easier to restore to my Macbook (MUCH EASIER) if they were on an external hard drive.

    • Great question! I got this external hard drive called “My Passport” for Mac. I think it was like $80 for 1 terabytes of data. I plugged it in and it automatically backs-up using time machine. My dad has a March birthday, too! So we celebrate the kids’ bdays and my dad’s bday in March; then, my mom, sis and I celebrate our bdays in October.

  3. That is so cool that their birthdays are so close! My brother and sister were both born in March 26th… two years apart. Such sweet pictures of the kids! My favorite is still the one of they laying in the snow.

    • Thanks! They had a great bday in Florida and they still have gifts trickling in from family and friends here (we didn’t do a big party) so they are lucky kids.

  5. Aww Happy birthday to Arielle and Zavier! I love the mustache kisses photo. Lucky, you! You won’t have to deal with the sibling jealousy on the other’s birthday.

    • I never thought of it that way. I do know that Arielle gets a little upset that Zavier’s birthday comes “first” even though he is younger than she is, I’m sure she’ll get over it eventually!

  6. Awww very sweet sister & brother. My younger brother and I were just one year apart and I can remember that we always argued as kids but it’s nice to know that we’re always supporting each other now that we’re grown-ups and I’m sure A&Z would do the same in the future. I’m not thinking of having another baby yet but if I do, I do hope my son would have a sister.. Happy birthday to A&Z! Excited for your Florida photos! 😀

    • Arielle was cheering on Zavier today in his first day of soccer. It was so cute! If I had another, then I hope it’s a girl too. I have a sister and she’s really my best friend in the whole wide world and I’d love for Arielle to experience that, especially during teen years.

  7. They’re so adorable. How lovely that they’re always playing together. I hope they both enjoyed their almost-joint birthday 🙂

  8. Such beautiful photos. Happy Birthday to your babies!! I’m sure they’ll have periods where they hate it and periods where they love having their birthdays around the same time. 🙂 Let’s hope its more love than hate for ease of celebration. They won’t even care about the non-fancy cake, as long as it is good cake! 🙂 Hope you guys have a blast celebrating Gracielle and happy hump day! -Iva

  9. Happy, happy birthday to your sweet babies!! Squee..they are SO ADORABLE!! I loved the walk through time with them together in photos. They are truly buddies! Three and Five are BIG YEARS!! I hope it is the best year ever for them both!! 🙂 –Lisa

    • Arielle was pretty disappointed when she looked in the mirror on her 5th birthday. She thought she would grow BIG overnight! LOL Otherwise, they are enjoying their new ages so far!

  10. These are just the most precious photos ever, Gracielle! What sweet babies you have!! Happy birthday A & Z!!! Almost makes me wish my little guy had a brother or a sister. Almost. 🙂
