My Dream DIY Projects

I have all these fantasies about making my home beautiful and being a mega crafty diva and DIY pinterest superstar.  Umm…yeah, then life happens and kids, work, cooking, cleaning, laundry (oh, the laundry!) get in the way of my DIY fantasies ever becoming a reality.  Here are my dream DIY projects that I would love to complete in this lifetime.

I guess this post could also be called “My Blog Crushes Revealed” because I salivate over some of the amazing work featured on these blogs.

Paint a vintage desk yellow just like this from Shausha @ Sweet Pickins

  • Excuse: I keep telling myself that I can do this project when I grow up.  This project is for the big girls.
  • Status:  I already got the desk from thrift store, but it’s sitting in the garage. I see it every time I leave and enter the house and it scoffs at me each time I pass by and calls me a big baby.

Super thick crown molding from Sarah @ The Yellow Cape Cod

  • Excuse: Just because it’s “DIY” doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s cheap.  Materials are expensive, bro!
  • Status: Not anytime soon.  Maybe when the kids are out of daycare, then we can save and do it a bit later…perhaps when they are done with college.

Play Set Canopy Make-over from Jackie @ Teal & Lime

  • Excuse: #sewingmachineproblems.
  • Status: For real, I was doing so great with this one!   I power-washed the play set and re-stained it so it looks brand spankin’ new.  I finally busted out the sewing machine that Jeff bought me last Christmas and sewed through 3/4ths of the fabric.  Then, the sewing machine just stopped working!  I can’t get the stupid lower bobbin thread to come up.  So, I put the sewing machine in the closet and told it not to come out until it’s ready to cooperate with me again.  Hmph!

Custom built furniture, basically anything from Ana White

Craft Table

Raised Garden Beds

  • Excuse:  I blame my husband.
  • Status: I continue to email plans from Ana White’s website to Jeffrey.  I’m hoping he’ll get the hint and build these things for me one day.

I don’t know if I’m feeling incredibly inspired or just flat out defeated right now.  LOL Stay tuned (indefinitely) for an update on whether or not I actually complete any of these DIY projects!

  1. I love that desk! Looking forward to seeing what you do with the one waiting in your garage… 🙂

  2. I owned a desk at a garage sale that I aspired to get Pinterest-y with. After two years in our garage, sometimes when I walked past it I couldn’t even remember what my vision for it had been. I decided to move on and let someone else incorporate it into their vision.

  3. I love the yellow desk idea! I’ve been wanting to paint a piece of furniture a bold color but haven’t found the right piece. I need to find something super cheap that way if I mess it up I won’t feel so bad. Hope yours goes well! Can’t wait to see the results.

  4. This post made me laugh out loud! Materials are indeed expensive, bro! You and I share a lot of DIY dreams. I also walk around Ikea pretending to live in the fake rooms. 🙂

    • I do that at Ikea, too! Ikea is like one big DIY fantasy land. Don’t even get me started on the Ikea furniture hack projects where they turn Billy bookcase into expensive looking custom built-in shelving. I might have pinned a few of those as well! LOL

  5. I have the raised garden beds on my Pinterest board. 🙂 Love the blame husband excuse… because sometimes you need the husband to help with some of that stuff!
