10 Reasons Why I Might Start Crying

Something is seriously wrong with my PMS schedule because I want to cry. ALL. THE. TIME.  I swear, ever since I turned 30, the most ridiculous things make me want to cry. As the tears start welling up in my eyes I mentally punch myself in the face and tell myself, “Seriously? You’re going to cry over THIS?!  You’re an idiot.  Man up and choke those tears back, woman!”  and then I snap out of it and save myself from reaching for the tissues.  Maybe because of all the stress as a working-mother, or because I make babies cry.  Who knows.

I couldn’t bring myself to post a picture of me crying, so I just used Clare Danes’ crying face because she does it best.

Here are 10 reasons why I might start crying:

  1. Someone is playing classical songs on my piano and it’s filling my house up with music.  It’s so beautiful and reminds me of my grandma, I want to cry but stop myself before Jeff’s family makes fun of me.
  2. I have not experienced a warm, sunny day in over 1 month.  Nothing but gloomy skies, cold weather and/or rain every single day.  This is depressing, I want to crawl into my bed cry.
  3. I’m watching a movie.  Any movie – happy, sad, musical, or comedy – I usually do cry, but wipe my tears quickly before anyone sees.
  4. My nanny is offering to help with some laundry and dishes.  I actually do cry at the tremendous sense of gratitude and give her a big hug.
  5. I’m watching Glee and Rachel just hit that note.  I stop myself from crying to prevent the self-loathing that would immediately follow.
  6. My kids are hugging each other.  I’m so blessed and my heart feels like its going to flutter right out of my chest.  I hold back the tears because I don’t want to have to answer 100 questions from Arielle on, “Mommy, why are you crying?  Do you have owie?  Are you sad?  Why do you cry when me and Zavie hug?”WisDells5
  7. I’m at church and feel spiritually inspired.  I typically do cry, because I usually go to church by myself so I don’t care.
  8. All I want to do is plant flowers in my garden, but EVERYTHING in life is preventing me from doing so (weather, events, work, weather, kids, money, emergencies, weather, travel, weather, nighttime).  I almost cried today, but Jeff promised me that we can plant them tomorrow when he saw the look on my face.
  9. This kid on Ellen is so darn cute! I’m not even his mother, but I’m so proud of him that I want to cry. He met Bruno Mars and I’m so jealous, I really might just cry.
  10.  I cannot tell if that is poop or chocolate on the carpet.  This is disgusting, I want to cry.

So there you have it.  Do you think I’m going crazy?  Don’t say yes because I might cry.  Anything unusual set off your water works lately?  I’d love to hear it!

  1. lmao about the poop or chocolate! I’d cry over your list too, except Glee I don’t watch, don’t have time for Ellen now I cry, and now I cry ’cause I don’t have a nanny!

new fan here! found you liked you from the fb frenzy and had to take a peak at what makes another mom cry! lol

    • Thanks so much for connecting! Sorry for making you want to cry…well, at least you had a good laugh about the poop. Poop humor is always good. LOL

  2. Lol, this is a great post. I was cracking up at the poop or chocolate on the floor comment. I cry during movies all the time and occasionally at commercials.

  4. All of those reasons for crying are completely valid! I’m not sure if you’ve seen this–my co-worker showed me this video at lunch, and I was trying my hardest not to let it out. And then I watched it again in private and teared up without anyone seeing.
It is with awesome dancers so I think you’ll dig it.

    • Hi Joan!!!! That’s officially #11 on my “Reasons why I might start crying list.” gee thanks. LOL That was beautiful!! thanks for sharing 🙂

  5. Great choice on Claire Danes. She’s one of the best criers out there, for sure. As a young thing on My So-Called Life she tugged at my heart strings on a regular basis because she was so good at it.

I cry a lot more as I get older. I blame hormones. But I also fight them less than I used to. I figure I’ve earned them.

    Good luck!

    • Missrobin, I was hoping you’d say that the crying tapers down as you get older. LOL Glad to know you’ve embraced it, though. Maybe I should take that approach instead of fighting it.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

  6. Ah, I cry more easily now that I'm a mom. Stopping by from SITS Sharefest.

  8. I remember making fun of my mom when I was a kid, because she would cry during movies. In the last few years, I have suddenly become a crier, and now it is my daughter who looks at me with eyes rolled and says, “seriously mom, are you crying right now?”

#10 would make anyone cry! (I hope it was chocolate!)

    • Hi Tracie, I never really saw my mom cry, so now that I’m super sensitive I perceived it as some sort of weakness. It’s really encouraging to see that it’s not just me. Even the strongest women cry at some point. Thanks so much for your comment and for stopping by!

  9. I am approaching thirty and I have also noticed my sensitive waterworks lately. I can't recall anything but I know I have had to mentally punch myself in the face as well. Stopping by from SITS Sharefest! Have a great week!

  13. I understand! I cry easily too. I cry during television shows or when I discover someone has eaten all my chocolate…

Yes! I am 30 and I actually cried AT MY SON'S FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY last week – IN FRONT OF EVERYONE! And it wasn't the sentimental-my-baby-is-growing-up-cry. Oh no, I cried because my dad make a sarcastic comment about the photo pose I was trying arrange for my son. Seriously? Seriously? I'm 30. I should be able to hold it together for a harmless little joke. I actually went and hid behind a tree until I could pull it together. H-U-M-I-L-I-A-T-I-N-G. So I understand your pain. And you're right…Claire Danes does that look best. -www.RocksNoSaltMommy.com-

  20. The news sets me off a lot of days. One of my kids asked once, “why are you crying, you don’t know those people,” and I said “you’ll understand when you’re a mom…when something happens to someone else’s children you feel pain for them too.” It’s hard to explain to kids.

  21. awww…you poor thing! I absolutely understand your reasons because I relate with them so well. Sometimes, it is the gratitude of having two wonderful kids in my life that makes me cry, but sometimes, a beautiful rainbow in the sky soon after a heavy downpour can make me cry too… 🙁 Hang in there… You are not alone in this 🙂

I used to be able to blame it on preggo hormones. I have no excuses now…so let me know when you figure out why we suffer from random water works, ok? 😀 LOL

That last crying moment definitely made me laugh at loud!

  32. I cry at commercials sometimes. The Greyhound commercial years ago was about a young man who wanted to go home but didn’t have enough money and wasn’t sure anyone would care. They got him a ticket and when the bus got near his house he could see every light on. Makes me tear up just writing it. Enjoy your SITS Day. Thanks for the post.

  34. Since I became pregnant the first time, I have been a constant waterworks. Sappy commercials do it every time. And don’t get me started on those tearjerkers by the ASPCA. Every time I see those sad puppy eyes, I have to change the channel or I’m a hot, sobbing mess!

Ok, now for the “I am 20 years older than you” comment – just wait until you reach 50 and menopause. That will give you something to cry about :-). Or you can just be happy that you are alive to have those feelings and go with it!

You have a great attitude – just keep on doing what you’re doing!

  40. Happy SITS day to you. Returning the love you showed me. So excited for you. I thought the poop or chocolate thing was hysterical, mainly because that very same thing just happened to me yesterday! It’s strange as I’ve hit my mid 30’s I go in stages of crying drought to a half hour break down. It’s like it builds up until it busts loose. I hope you are having a fabulous day!

The one thing that always makes me cry is when one of my kids make a goal or have an awesome play in soccer, or when they get to shine in any other way. I am just so darn proud of them, and I feel so silly crying out on the soccer field! And like you, I also cry at church, but I usually go on my own as well so it is not a big deal =)
