Custom Name Art for Skyla

Three of my besties are preggo right now and it’s baby shower season.  I wanted to make something special for my dear friend Felicity who is having a girl to-be-named “Skyla.” Her shower was this past weekend and here’s what I came up with:

I actually spotted this on Pinterest from the blog shanty2chic.com.

This version is a bit more time-consuming and I had to cut back on some of the steps because I’m a last-minute kind of gal (eek!)  I nixed the wood base and spray paint.  It does add  a nice touch, but I figured that the frames could be individually hung or displayed as-is on their stands.  The original instructions didn’t really explain how to actually get the letters to fit the frame once you find them, so here’s how I got it to work:

  1. Go to this Flickr site for FREE letters.  Browse through and download the letters that strike your fancy.
  2. Upload the photo to picmonkey to edit each photo for FREE.
  3. Use the Basic Edits to Crop the photo and click on the drop-down that says “No fixed proportions” and select your photo size (3×4, 4×6, 5×7, etc.) so that the image is well proportioned when you go to print it.
  4.  Use the Effects to make the picture in black & white.  The photos from Flickr will come in all sorts of colors so b&w will get you an eclectic, yet uniform look.

Once you’re done editing, you can save to your local drive and print from your own computer or at Walgreen’s, Costco, or wherever.  Here are more pics of how they turned out:

Felicity said she plans on hanging them above Skyla’s crib.  I feel honored because that’s prime real estate!  But she might have to swap out or spray paint the frames to match the nursery decor.

Here’s a picture of us and some of the sweet little details from the shower:

All of my three friends shown in the picture were pregnant, which is very exciting and amazing!  I just hope it’s not contagious since I’m not quite ready to have another one anytime soon.  Yikes!  Might not have been the smartest idea to rub bellies with Jen (far left). I know the flu is going around, too, so I made sure to wash my hands and my belly  real well when I got home.
